How to care for your Costume Jewellery

Top 6 Tips on how to look after your costume jewellery

We all love costume jewellery, but sometimes we forget to look after it property. With this in mind we thought that you ought to have some information on how to care for your jewels and precious party pieces.

Here are the top 6 ways that we have come up with to look after your jewellery.

Avoid Water

The majority of costume jewellery is not a friend of water and so you should avoid leaving your jewellery on damp surfaces like the side fo the sink or on a bathroom floor. Try and have a special dish or jewellery box to hand so that you can ensure it is kept dry at all times.

Getting in a tangle

There is nothing worse than going to your jewellery to find your favourite necklace has become tangled up with a bracelet and some earrings. We have all done it. Avoid this by hanging earring, bracelets, watches, necklaces and ring separately and on specially designed holders. There are lots around – or you could make a feature wall of all your jewellery.

Carrying your jewellery

If you are taking your jewellery away with you then remember to pack it well. We suggest a jewellery roll so that your jewellery is protected from any knocks.

Hairspray, Perfumes, Moistures and Soap

Just as with pearl jewellery, costume jewellery does not like the acid from hairsprays or perfumes, so make sure that you put them on after you have spritzed. If you do anything on your jewellery, then give them a rinse.

Avoid direct sunlight

Materials like wood can be affected by the sun, so avoid leaving them in direct sunlight.

Cotton buds for cleaning

Use cotton buds or a soft toothbrush to clean your jewellery. Adding a bit of distilled water can help to shift any dirt. Again, make sure that you dry them properly afterwards.
